3663 launches its first electric truck at Battersea depot
Foodservice distributor 3663 is running its first electric vehicle out of its Battersea depot in south London.
Quiet, clean and energy-efficient, the 12-tonne (26,450lbs) Smith Newton all-electric truck can transport up to 3,000kg (6,600lbs) of goods. Ideal for multi-drop, predictable route delivery applications, the Newton has a 120kWh battery pack for additional range and is recharged overnight. The robust lithium-ion batteries can also be topped up as required, for quick power boosts.
3663 is one of the UK’s leading foodservice wholesale distributors. It offers a range of services to the whole industry and delivers quality grocery, frozen, fresh, chilled and non-food items to approximately 60,000 customers.
“These green trucks are not only quicker and easier to maintain, but they also create zero tailpipe pollution – meaning no nitrogen oxide, no carbon monoxide and no carbon dioxide is emitted from the vehicle. It also runs very quietly, reducing the level of noise pollution.”
Joanna Pegg, Fleet Controller at 3663
“This is a step in the right direction for urban depots, such as Battersea, where the electric vehicle will make a real positive difference to both our drivers and customers, and more importantly, the environment. Smaller, quieter and energy efficient, the Smith Newton will make deliveries much easier for our drivers who regularly have to stop-start their engines in one of the busiest parts of the city.”
Andrew McManus, Business Unit Controller for 3663 at Battersea depot
The Smith Newton truck has a top speed of 50mph (80km/h) and travels up to 100 miles (160km) on a single charge. Standard features include power-steering, front and rear suspension, and a hydraulic brake system.
